CAT is a crucial and standardized entrance exam for MBA, with around 2.3 lakh aspirants attempting it annually to secure admission in top B-schools such as IIMs, FMS, XLRI, and SP Jain. These schools rely heavily on CAT scores to select students based on factors such as academics, age, and work experience.
CAT is the most popular MBA entrance exam for prestigious B-Schools in India, requiring dedicated preparation time. The optimal time to begin CAT preparation depends on individual skills and available time, but starting at least a year or in March before the November/December exam is recommended.
The candidate should be graduate with minimum 50% of marks (45% for Reserved Category) and degree recognized by MHRD/AICTE or UCG. There is specific age bar.
After completing an MBA, popular job profiles include Project Manager, Business Development/Marketing/Product Manager, Analytics/System/Business/Financial Manager, Investment Fund Manager, IT Director, and others.
India offers over 50 MBA entrance exams, with seven conducted nationally. Students can opt for exams such as CMAT, MAT, XAT, IIFT, SNAP, ATMA as an alternative to CAT for MBA admissions. However, clearing an entrance exam is mandatory to pursue an MBA program.
IIM Ahmedabad revamped the CAT exam in 2015, and it has since followed a consistent pattern for all three sections: VARC, DILR, and QA. The exam comprises approximately 66 MCQs and non-MCQs that must be completed within two hours in CBT mode.
